The Berkeley Journal of Criminal Law Presents
Jeff Adachi
Public Defender of the City and County of San Francisco

Before being elected as Public Defender in 2002, Mr. Adachi served as a deputy
public defender since 1985. From 1998-2001, he served as the Chief Attorney of the office. Mr. Adachi has tried over 100 jury trials, which include numerous serious felony and homicide cases.

As the only elected public defender in the state of California and one of few elected public defenders in the United States, Mr. Adachi oversees an office that serves over 29,000 individuals each year and provides an array of programs, such as drug court, clean slate expungement services, and a full-service juvenile division.

Mr. Adachi will discuss the struggle of providing high-quality indigent defense in the midst of budget cuts and lay-offs.

Wednesday, October 14. 12:45-1:45.
Room 140.
